What are the things that decide the write/read speed? DVD and sata cable? does the usb port and connected device also have something to do with it?

Aurora is a city of 16,000 people (2019) in Portage County. It is a suburb of Akron, Ohio. Its downtown area is a National Historic Place, with 21 contributing buildings in styles that include Mid-19th Century Revival, Late Victorian, and Federal.

The family of Ebenezer Sheldon was the first settler family to venture into the remote regions of the Western Reserve in 1799. Sheldon and his family came from Westfield, Connecticut. Soon other pioneer families followed. In 1807 a village government was established.

For the price of the enclosure you could get a new portable USB drive. Note the length of the cable. You may need to purchase a longer one if necessary.

Just a thought: The price of a brand new External DVD Player is so low, that the cost of the cable, you require, may be more

I think it has an SATA connector. Can I use an SATA to USB adapter and just plug it in my Laptop/desktop and burn/read cd's?

Some say Aurora was the name of the daughter of Major Amos Spafford, while others believe the village was named after Aurora, the Roman goddess of dawn.

The portable drives do not. (Last link in my post #6).They can run from only a USB port. Read/Write speeds are determined by the optical drive itself.  USB 2 and SATA are faster than the DVD drive.

system make/model please.  I think it depends on what you have in the laptop, if USB is 3.0 I think maybe.  Can get it to play  as for burn am not sure.  Lot a info : https://www.google.com/search?client=firefox-b-d&q=SATA+to+USB+adapter+to+burn+cd%27s
