Last week, my sister Annie and I had the honour of launching the Irish, British & American Junior Chamber of Commerce at the BT Young Scientist & Technology Exhibition. We began at the #BTYSTE in 2015, so we decided that the Chamber should begin here too in 2020, five years later! After a long time of planning and working on the concept of the Junior Chamber, we finally got it going. The concept of the #IBAJCC is to encourage young entrepreneurs under the age of 23 to simplify international business. The aims of the Junior Chamber are to prevent mistakes we have all made before & to help each other in the hectic world of international trade! We are also delighted that Shay Walsh, MD of BT Ireland has agreed to be our Honorary Patron for 2020, and to help and guide our members with his vast experience. Ireland is part of the EU, Britain is part of the Commonwealth, and America is one of the largest global markets that young entrepreneurs would love to break into. This is why it is the perfect trio to begin with. At the end of the day, the aim of the Irish, British & American Junior Chamber of Commerce is to help and encourage each other as young entrepreneurs, and create strong international connections for the future! Roll on 2020! #IBAJCC #BTYSTE #NeverGiveUp

This evening I had the pleasure of attending a workshop titled “Adding Financial Modelling to Your Toolkit” hosted by Danielle Stein Fairhurst, Principal of Plum Solutions. Danielle introduced us to the importance of industry, accounting and business knowledge in relation to Financial Modelling, while also outlining how assumption documentation can help with validation and avoiding misinterpretation. This workshop was conducted through Excel and after this evening, I have gained even more insight into the useful tools Excel holds. Many thanks to CPA Australia’s Young Professional Networking Group for providing this insightful workshop and I look forward to attending future events to add to my #FinancialModellingToolkit.

I was thrilled to join The Ireland Funds Australia’s Young Leaders and the Embassy of Ireland, Australia & Consulate General of Ireland (New South Wales) in Sydney for a wonderful event this evening. The purpose of this event was to give an introduction into some of the professional, social and support networks available for the Irish community in Sydney. This evening’s event showcased some of the diverse range of community organisations and groups available. The importance of these organisations and groups was conversed over three separate panel discussions which included guest speakers from The Lansdowne Club (Australia), IDA Ireland in Australia/NewZealand, and the Irish Support Agency NSW and many others. I also had the opportunity to meet with fellow guests which made it a wonderful opportunity to grow my Irish network abroad. Many thanks to the Ireland Funds Australia’s Young Leaders and the Consulate General of Ireland, Sydney for this wonderful event and I look forward to attending many more like it.

I recently finished up with KPMG Ireland after a fantastic experience working with an amazing team. I want to express my gratitude to each and every one of my colleagues for their support over the past few years. A very special thank you to Ritika Aggarwal Foody for her guidance and support throughout. My time at KPMG has given me incredible experience, expertise, and friendships and I will cherish the memories from my time there. Like many other young Irish professionals, I have made the move down under to sunny Sydney! I wish to secure a similar role here in Sydney and I am #OpenToWork for roles within the Consulting and/or Financial Services sectors. Please feel free to connect with me if there are any relevant opportunities or if you have any contacts in Australia.
Congrats 👏👏 Ye’re great girls! Must say I recognised that some years ago when you won the People’s Choice Award in the Innovation Arena 👏👏
Kate Madden, PT MSc in Management (Online) Class of 2025, discusses her experiences of the programme whilst relocating to Australia; "Having recently relocated to Sydney, Australia, I enrolled in the MSc in Management part-time. Despite the nine-hour time difference, the program’s exceptional structure and remote delivery have made it possible for me to balance full-time work while gaining invaluable business management knowledge. The program's comprehensive approach has equipped me with a strong foundation, and I am already applying these skills to both my career and personal development. The insights and tools I have acquired are directly relevant to my future aspirations in financial services and corporate advisory, and I am eager to see how the program will further develop my capabilities in the coming year. I highly recommend this program to any individual who is looking to advance their career or make the change into the business world. The diversity of work experience and educational backgrounds makes this course stand out from others as it gives you the opportunity to learn from both your professors and your peers."

On Sunday, a group of friends and I walked a marathon around Sydney to raise money for Cavernoma UK to support our friend Anna. June is Cavernoma Awareness Month and the theme for this years awareness month is ‘hope’. This word was chosen in the hope that a cure can be found. Cavernomas are a cluster of abnormal blood vessels found in the brain and spinal cord. These can cause serious neurological issues including seizures, haemorrhages, strokes and chronic headaches. The only form of treatment which exists at this time is brain surgery. After being diagnosed with the rare brain condition, Cerebral Cavernous Malformation, at age 13, Anna found out she has multiple cavernomas in her brain. In April, she suffered a bleed on the brain from a cavernoma in her cerebellum which triggered a variety of physiological and psychological symptoms. She was experiencing multiple amounts of prolonged seizures with excruciating head pains and stroke like symptoms. After spending a period of 3 weeks in hospital, she trialed different treatments and she is still continuing to do so as her body has either seen little to no relief to her everyday symptoms caused by her cavernomas. Due to the lack of knowledge regarding current treatments, one of the main suggestions is to ‘just wait and see’. After Anna’s most recent scare, this is the only answer she has been given which is a confusing and daunting position to be in. Any donation no matter how big or small will make such a difference to current cavernoma research and support! https://lnkd.in/eenvd4Hb
