The CADD ambulatory infusion pump provides measured drug therapy to patients in hospital and outpatient settings. It is used for therapies that require a continuous rate of infusion. Central venous access and the use of luer lock connectors with a split valve septum are recommended when administering drugs via a CADD pump. Drug doses are concentrated into a small volume. If the infusion time needs to be altered consult a pharmacist for advice on safe delivery times to minimise patient toxicity.
Patients should be supplied with printed information on pump and spill management, and given details of appropriate 24 hour medical and nursing contact information to which patient can direct queries.
Clinical safety note There are physical and operational differences between the different types of CADD® pumps. Incorrect programming can lead to over-infusion of medication and has the potential to cause serious injury and death. See the TGA Alert misidentification of a CADD® Legacy Plus Pump leading to over-infusion and ISMP safety alert regarding the rapid infusion of high dose fluorouracil.
Refer to the operator's manual for a complete list of all warnings, precautions and for information on troubleshooting with the use of these devices
Only health care professionals who have attained competency as per institutional guidelines in ambulatory infusion pump management and related competencies, e.g. safe administration, handling and waste management of cytotoxics, and central venous access device care, should perform these procedures.
These search filters have been developed to retrieve the most up to date evidence from PubMed, in real time, using specifically designed search filters built to meet our needs.
Occasionally the searches may not display correctly or take too long to load (and will eventually timeout). This may be caused by Internet Explorer being unable to handle long URL's. You can rectify this by using Firefox, Safari or Google chrome. It is always a good idea to clear the cache regularly to ensure you are getting the most up to date search.
Flinders Filters has partnered with eviQ to build reliable, robust search filters to retrieve core high level evidence on topics of significance to eviQ. The project goal is the provision of a sustainable model for evidence retrieval to ensure ongoing currency of content.
