Extended Range Coaxial Germanium detectors (XtRa) are a specialized variant of coaxial germanium detectors designed to offer a wide energy range. These detectors are optimized to have high sensitivity at both low and high energies. A unique thin front contact that extends the useful energy range down to 3 keV. Conventional coaxial detectors have a lithium diffused contact, between 0.5 and 1.5 mm thick. This dead layer stops most photons below 40 keV, which makes the detector practically usable at low energies. The XtRa detector, with its exclusive thin disposable window and with a composite cryostat window, offers the advantages of a coaxial detector such as high efficiency, good energy resolution and moderate cost, together with the energy response of the more expensive REGe detector.
